I would now like to introduce you to Giresun’s historic Zeytinlik District. Formerly known as the Gogora Neighborhood—a place where Greeks and Turks lived side by side for many years—it stands as one of Giresun’s most distinctive historic settlements. Today, Zeytinlik is preserved as a "Third-Degree Urban Conservation Area" and is particularly notable for its traditional Giresun houses.
As we stroll through its narrow, characteristic streets, we can see 19th-century stone and timber houses, gardens, fountains, and architectural details that reflect the lifestyle of that era. Many of the houses are situated on the sloping terrain in a way that ensures they do not block one another’s light or views. Details such as Marseille roof tiles and *peçi* stoves—brought from Europe via the hazelnut trade—also shed light on the district's commercial history.
A short walk here transports us back to 19th-century Giresun. With its historic mansions, unique street layout, and cultural atmosphere, the Zeytinlik District is a must-visit destination for anyone wishing to explore Giresun’s past.
