Dear visitors, we are now standing in front of the Osmaniye Fountain, one of Giresun’s historic water structures that has survived to the present day, though it is no longer in use. Located on Yeşiltepe Street in the Osmaniye Neighborhood, this fountain may appear to be a simple structure at first glance; however, upon closer inspection, it reveals significant traces of Giresun’s past neighborhood life and traditional water culture. One of the most intriguing aspects of the Osmaniye Fountain’s story is that its exact date of construction remains unknown. There is no inscription on the fountain indicating when it was built or who commissioned it. Furthermore, records from the Giresun Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism leave the fields for the construction date and the patron blank. Consequently, it is impossible to state with certainty when or by whom the structure was built. However, historical structures sometimes "speak" through their inscriptions or their architectural features. The Osmaniye Fountain largely tells its story through its architecture. In particular, the structure's façade layout and stonework bear a resemblance to the Hoca Hanım Fountain, built in 1894. This similarity allows the Osmaniye Fountain to be considered part of the same architectural tradition. Yet, since this resemblance alone does not provide a definitive construction date, the fountain's history must be approached with caution. The fountain was constructed using a masonry technique with cut stone. Today, the section that best retains its original character is the west-facing front façade. The corners of this façade project outward, creating the appearance of columns. This design introduces a distinct architectural dynamism to an otherwise quite simple structure.
