Dear visitors, the structure standing before us is one of Giresun’s old school buildings—a remnant of the city's educational past that is no longer in use today. Although it now stands silent and weathered, this building was once a hub of learning, alive with the voices of children, the bustle of lessons, and the lively activity of daily school life.
Regarding its architectural features, the building reflects a style that harmonizes with the traditional architecture of the Black Sea region—simple yet striking. It was constructed using masonry techniques, employing a combination of rough-hewn and dressed stone. Situated on sloping terrain, the building consists of a ground floor and one upper story. Rectangular in plan, the structure extends along an east-west axis.
Let us imagine the students who once walked through this doorway: children making their way to school in the early morning, the rush to get to class on time, teachers preparing for lessons, and the sounds of children filling the corridors during recess. These walls, which now seem surrendered to silence, once hosted the educational lives of Giresun’s younger generations.
In cities like Giresun that have experienced rapid urbanization and population shifts, old school buildings hold special significance. While new schools are built to meet educational needs, older structures may lose their original function over time; yet, due to their historical and architectural value, they endure as vital records of the city's past.
