One of the places you absolutely must visit while exploring Giresun's historical fabric is Fiyale Road. Located in the Kale (Castle) District, this historical road, connecting Eşref Dizdar Street and Atatürk Boulevard, was once an important route providing access between Giresun Castle and the coast. According to sources, the road's original structure consisted of stairs carved into the natural rock, serving as a natural passageway extending from the castle walls to the coast.
The historical significance of Fiyale Road doesn't stem solely from its function as a transportation route. It stands out as a significant cultural asset, carrying the historical connection between Giresun's castle and the coast to the present day. Due to urbanization and the initial construction of the coastal road, a section of its original route was damaged, and it remained unused for a long time. Following restoration work in 2012, it was renovated and reopened to pedestrian traffic.
Today, walking here, you can trace the historical footprints of Giresun while simultaneously experiencing the city's past transportation structure and the relationship between the castle and the coast more closely. Fiyale Trail offers a short but meaningful city walk where you can experience the historical atmosphere of Giresun with its steps bearing traces of the past and its unique location.
