I would now like to introduce you to the Halil Rıfat Paşa Tunnel, located on the Giresun–Şebinkarahisar road in the Dereli district of Giresun. Opened in 1885 under the leadership of Halil Rıfat Paşa—the Governor of Sivas at the time—this historic tunnel stands as a significant reminder of the challenging transportation conditions of that era. Spanning approximately 35 meters in length, the tunnel was constructed by carving through rock using manual labor and hand tools such as hammers, chisels, and pickaxes.
Also known locally as "Deliklitaş" (Pierced Rock), the tunnel is today an important cultural heritage site that showcases the transportation practices and human labor of the past. Especially when considered alongside the surrounding natural beauty, it serves as a compelling stop for visitors wishing to explore Giresun’s historic transportation routes.
