I would now like to introduce you to the Sheikh Idris Mosque and Tomb, located in the village of Gökçeali in Piraziz. It is understood that the original structure of the mosque—commissioned by Sheikh Idris, a significant spiritual figure of the region—dates back to the late 14th century, specifically to the period prior to his death in 1399. The current mosque, however, was rebuilt in a later era and dates to 1918.
The tomb of Sheikh Idris is situated immediately to the southeast of the mosque, a structure notable for its stone walls, wooden ceiling, and simple architecture. The present-day tomb is a domed structure with a heptagonal plan, redesigned in the traditional baldachin style.
When visiting this site, we have the opportunity to discover not only a historic mosque and tomb but also the legacy of a key figure in the history of Piraziz’s settlement and Islamization. In this respect, the Sheikh Idris Mosque and Tomb stands as a significant landmark of the district's spiritual heritage.
