I would like to introduce you to Bendehor Castle, which bears traces of one of Piraziz’s earliest settlements. Located in the area of the district known as Kaleyanı or Ayıkaşı, this small fortress is a significant structure that sheds light on the region's pre-Turkish history. Although the exact date of its construction is unknown, it is believed to have existed prior to the arrival of Turkish settlers in the area and to have served as a small military outpost in the past.
We find the castle mentioned as "Bendehor" in Ottoman land registry records dating back to 1455. At that time, a settlement existed around the castle, and the region served as an important administrative center. Bendehor—a small defensive structure featuring a single bastion—occupied a commanding position overlooking the surrounding area.
The surviving ruins are invaluable for understanding the historical settlement patterns of Piraziz. A visit here reveals not merely the remains of a fortress, but also traces of a history stretching back centuries.
