Tomb of Pir Aziz

I would now like to introduce you to the tomb of Pir Aziz, the figure after whom the district of Piraziz is named. Located in the town center, this tomb holds significant importance regarding the district's historical and spiritual identity. Pir Aziz is believed to have been a disciple of Sheikh Idris—a key figure who spearheaded the conquest of the Giresun region—and an *Ahi* leader.

Pir Aziz, who is thought to have lived between the late 14th and early 15th centuries, is said to have contributed to the development of justice, solidarity, and the *Ahilik* (fraternal guild) tradition in the region. Indeed, the district’s name, "Piraziz," is believed to be derived from his name and epithet. The tomb standing today was reconstructed using cut stone in keeping with traditional architectural styles and was opened to visitors in 2012.
