Hoca Hanım Fountain

Now, I invite you to the Hoca Hanım Fountain, one of Giresun’s significant historical fountains that has survived to the present day. Located on Saydaş Street in the Seldeğirmeni Neighborhood, this elegant structure was commissioned by Hoca Hatice on December 29, 1894. The inscriptions on the fountain indicate that it was built as an act of charity, highlighting the significant mark left on the city's water culture by Hoca Hatice, one of the era's philanthropic women.
Distinguished by its cut-stone masonry, two round-arched niches, and colorful stone ornamentation, the fountain is preserved today within the garden wall of a private residence. While it once met the water needs of local residents, the structure also stands as a valuable cultural asset that reflects the Ottoman tradition of philanthropy and the neighborhood life of Giresun.
