Double Minaret Madrasah

Welcome to the Double Minaret Madrasa, a landmark rising in the historic city center of Sivas. One of the most impressive examples of Anatolian Seljuk architecture, the madrasa was built in 1271 by the Ilkhanid vizier Shams al-Din Juvayni. The most striking surviving feature of the structure is its magnificent stone facade and the two elegant minarets rising above it. Named after these twin minarets, the madrasa's monumental main gate showcases the artistic sensibilities of the era with its geometric patterns, floral motifs, and fine stonework. The minarets, enriched with brick and tile decorations, give the building its unique appearance. Having witnessed the changing urban fabric of Sivas throughout the centuries, the Double Minaret Madrasa is today an important cultural heritage site dating from the Seljuk and Ilkhanid periods. When standing in front of the building, we recommend you pay particular attention to the details of the stone gate and the minarets. Because every motif here bears traces of the rich art and architecture of 13th-century Anatolia.
